Stormy Winter on Site

Building is in progress, and a variety of new elements, both external and internal, are already visible

01 February 2013

Building has been progressing at a good rate, and these are some of the new features you can see on site:

  • The EcoWall columns are in place, and visible from the Ayalon Highway and the Science Promenade. The connecting bridges are in mid-construction;
  • The entrance square is clear and ready for the digging of the Green Basin to begin. The cleanliness, order and separation of materials, a significant component in the green standard rating, are clearly visible in the photos;
  • Inside the building, aluminum frames were recently installed into the great spaces on the northern façade, to be used as a basis for the screen walls;
  • Flooring and drywall construction on the lower floors are in advanced stages

During the past couple of weeks, the equipment for the hybrid air conditioning system was hoisted up to the roof of the building. This unique system incorporates a number of innovative sub-systems, never previously installed in Israel: and air chiller, a cooling tower, an absorption chiller and pumps. Special Chilled Beams were also stored in the building – another pioneering technology in Israel, disseminating fresh air throughout all the rooms in the building, independent of electricity.

While construction is in progress, it has been decided that the university will give the Porter School a few dozens of new but unused lockers. By installing them, the green principle of using and preserving existing materials and element is implemented, as a guideline to all processes of building and accessorizing the building.
