Architectural Competition

The winning model by architects Axelrod-Grobman, Chen and Cory (Geotectura)

Aiming to find the best architects for the unique challenges of the PSES Building project, the Porter School of Environmental Studies held a special architectural competition. The contest and its terms were designed to raise awareness among Israeli professionals, architects and consultants, inviting them to become familiar with the principles of green building.

40 teams of leading architectural firms from Israel and abroad took part in the competition, which was launched in March 2008. The seven teams chosen as finalists, in alphabetical order, were:

  • Ada Karmi-Melamede Architects
  • Axelrod-Grobman Architects together with Chen Architects and Geotectura (Architect Dr. Joseph Cory)
  • Knafo Klimor Architects
  • Sian Architecture & Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects, London
  • Skorka Architects
  • Weinstein Vaadia Architects
  • Zucker Shiran Architects & hia (Iftach Harari Architects)

The seven selected groups were asked to prepare detailed models of their architectural concepts, and the proposals were presented to a committee consisting of professionals and representatives of Tel Aviv University, the Porter School and the Porter Foundation.

The winning group was Axelrod-Grobman Architects, Chen Architects and Architect Dr. Joseph Cory of Geotectura. Two other teams were also specially noted for their outstanding proposals: Sian Architecture & Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects from London and Knafo Klimor Architects
