Alon Shepon, Ph.D.

Alon Shepon is a food system expert and an environmental scientist with research interests in food, ecology, and sustainability. Over the last few years his research has focused on understanding the interplay between food and environment and the implications of changes in agricultural production and dietary consumption patterns. His current research explores the emerging solution space that integrates food security and environmental sustainability objectives in the context of global fisheries. His research efforts aim to broaden the understanding of the complex environment-diet-policy links and to quantitatively reveal more effective policy tools towards implementing sustainable food systems. Alon has an elaborate track record in the interdisciplinary field of food systems, which spans over 10 years of research and activism, and includes publications in high-profile journals as well as international collaborations in the USA (Harvard), Sweden (Beijer) and more. He is the co-founder and chair of the Israeli Forum for Sustainable Nutrition , a non-governmental organization that disseminates evidence-based and unbiased information towards promoting a sustainable food system in Israel.
