Yoav Galant, The Minister of Education visited the Ramot Yam School in Mikhmoret.

He was presented with an experimental seaweed cultivation system built by Alexander Chemodanov from the Porter School of the Environment and Earth Sciences which is used for the research of our PhD Student Meiron Zollmann.

The goal of these experiments is to examine and model year-round growth rates and chemical composition of seaweed in order to assess the potential production of food, energy and biomaterials offshore the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

These experiments and others are run as part of a fruitful cooperation with high-school students from the sailing, diving and aquaculture courses, led by Mr. Rafi Yavetz

The presence of the Department of Environmental Studies in the Ramot Yam aquaculture center serves as a platform for educational and research collaborative work.

On the one hand, we provide academic support for final projects in biology and aquaculture.

On the other hand, we utilize the school's laboratories and get logistic support from staff and students in the operation of offshore underwater experiments.
