The Porter School of Environmental Studies is a key partner in Israel's new Center for Innovation in Transportation

07 September 2014

The Porter School of Environmental Studies will collaborate with TAU's Faculty of Engineering and the Fuel Choices Initiative at the Prime Minister's Office, in establishing a new research institute focusing on innovation in transportation. The new Center will be part of Israel's National Program for Alternative Fuels, contributing to one of the most critical global efforts of our time: reducing humanity's dependence on oil and fossil fuels.

Promoting multidisciplinary research and open to researchers from all academic institutions in Israel, the Center will focus on developing novel transportation models, as well as promoting a sustainable approach to transportation within Israel's government, business, public and civil sectors. In addition, the new Center will reach out to academic centers overseas, and initial dialogues with MIT, Tsinghua University in Beijing and other institutions are already underway.

As a key partner within the Center, the Porter School of Environmental Studies will host carefully chosen Israeli entrepreneurs with promising ideas on innovative transportation, helping them establish new startups in this crucial area.

"To develop innovative transportation solutions, specialists from many disciplines must work together: mechanical engineers, product designers, computer scientists, planners of public transportation, sociologists, legal experts, regulators, policy-makers and others," said the Head of Porter School, Prof. Dani Rabinovitz. "The new Center for Innovation in Transportation will bring them all together, with the Porter School playing a central role. This is an important milestone on our way to becoming a national and global hub of environmental research."
